The bustling port city of Jacksonville and the nearby picturesque Amelia Island are situated on the Atlantic Ocean off the eastern coast of the state of Florida, which is located in the southern United States. Amelia Island could be thought of as a calm complement to Jacksonville’s high energy and racing pulse, but both areas have become popular tourist destinations for boating and yachting enthusiasts from around the world, thanks to the warm climate, fun atmosphere and ample opportunities for adventuresome seafaring travelers to explore the many islands along the coast in the region, or to participate in a variety of exciting water sports.

Although Amelia Island is small – only 21 kilometers long and 6 kilometers wide – it is definitely worth a visit while in the Jacksonville area, especially the historic old town. The port of Jacksonville is impressive to behold and activity here accounts for much of the region’s economy. A large number of marinas and resorts can be found in the area as well, so even the most discriminating of travelers should have no trouble finding excellent accommodations.
