The small port of Ormestad is located in southwestern Sweden, around 160 kilometers northeast of the city of Lysekil and 18 kilometers southwest of Knahammar. Inhabited since ancient times, today the area has become a popular destination for boating and yachting enthusiasts from around the world. As such, tourism makes up a large percentage of the local economy, as does fishing and marine research.

A number of ports in the region provide excellent amenities, while the nearby Gullmarsfjorden area is the country’s only protected marine area. The average depth here ranges from 7 to 12 meters and the width of the fjord is between one and three kilometers. In addition, the area is an excellent place to scuba dive and is an important breeding ground for a variety of fish and crustaceans, some of which are endangered. The rocky coastline here is stunningly beautiful, and the region features a number of prehistoric ruins.
