The port city of Lysekil can be found in Västra Götaland County of southwestern Sweden along the Bohuslan Coast near Gullmarsfjorden – a 25-kilometer long fjord – and around 135 kilometers northeast of Göteborg. The area has been a popular tourist destination and resort during the summer months since the mid-19th century, but has also served as an important fishing and marine research centre throughout the years.

Lysekil is a favorite destination among boating and yachting enthusiasts from around the world, thanks to its scenic beauty and close proximity to a wide variety of other coastal fishing villages and port towns. For adventuresome seafaring travelers, a wide variety of water sports are available here, including swimming, sailing, water skiing and deep-sea fishing. Also of note, the House of the Ocean aquatic museum boasts an amazing array of sea life, while the fjord boasts an impressive marine nature preserve.
