The big island of Amundön is located just south of the city of Gothenburg in southwest Sweden, around 35 kilometers southeast of Öckerö. Today, the island is a popular destination for boating and yachting enthusiasts visiting Gothenburg, thanks to its gorgeous beaches, dramatic cliffs, rocky coastline and peaceful atmosphere.

Amundön is home to a picturesque private marina that is near a well-known shipbuilding centre and can hold more than 500 vessels at one time. While here, be sure to venture inland long enough to check out some of the ancient Cairns, many of which date back to the Bronze Age and Iron Age. The greatest concentration of mounds can be found on the western coast of the island, but the best preserved and most striking is located on Drag Nose and is constructed of enormous boulders. Interestingly, the island is currently uninhabited, with the last resident choosing to leave in the 1930s.
