The port town of Palamós is located on the Mediterranean Sea in the province of Girona, which is situated on the eastern coast of Spain. It is part of a coastal region known as the Costa Brava, or ‘Wild Coast,’ which runs north from the town of Blanes to the French border. Palamós lies around 75 miles northeast of Barcelona, fairly close to the French border. The harbor here was officially established in the 13th century, but today it has grown to become a major commercial and fishing centre, as well as a thriving tourist destination.

The old port of Palamós is particularly charming, boasting a wide variety of bars, restaurants and cafes, many of which offer cuisine made with prawns, which are the local specialty. In addition, adventure-seeking seafaring travelers will delight in the large bay that extends out along the coast from the town, as it is perfect for water sports like sailing, windsurfing and swimming.
