The ancient fishing port of Izola can be found in southwestern Slovenia on the Istrian Peninsula in the Adriatic Sea, around 15 kilometers west of Koper and 60 kilometers southwest of Trieste. Settled since the early 2nd century BCE, the ancient town was first built on a small limestone island near the coast and today the area has become a popular tourist destination for boating and yachting enthusiasts from around the world, perhaps in part due to the breathtaking scenery and warm, sub-Mediterranean climate.

The marina in Izola is located very close to the city itself and boasts a wide variety of excellent amenities, including a casino, restaurants, shopping, a swimming pool, a famous sailing club and tennis, all designed to make life comfortable for seafaring travelers. It can hold more than 600 vessels at one time and is considered by many to be quite well protected from bad weather, making it an ideal base from which to explore the region.
