The island of Mahe is the largest in the Seychelles, which is an island nation that is comprised of more than 115 islands in the Indian Ocean, around 1,500 kilometers east of south-central Africa and northeast of Madagascar. Mahe can be found in the northeastern portion of the archipelago, around 30 kilometers southwest of Praslin, and is home to the nation’s capital, the city of Victoria, where seafaring travelers will also find the island’s main port.

Mahe is dotted with lush green mountain peaks and is also home to the nation’s largest airport, helping to make it a popular destination for savvy boating and yachting enthusiasts from around the world. While here, be sure to visit Victoria’s morning market, as well as to the old portion of town, which is dotted with historic colonial buildings that line charming narrow streets. In addition, Mahe is an excellent base from which to explore the many surrounding islands and islets by sea.
