The bustling port of Ponta Delgada welcomes many tourists and seafaring travelers and is located on the island of St. Miguel in the Portugese Azores in the Atlantic Ocean. Nicknamed “the green island,” St. Miguel is often considered to be one of the world’s most visually stunning islands, so be sure to venture inland long enough to do a little bit of sightseeing – you won’t regret it!

The mild, temperate climate makes this a popular destination for seafaring travelers, who also thrill to explore the nine other islands in the archipelago. Still something of a hidden gem, St. Miguel was first settled in 1444, and today the Azores still rely heavily on fishing and farming industries as well as tourism. Interestingly, the culture, cuisine and dialect is quite different here from one island to the next, while the main city on St. Miguel is known as Ribeira Grande.
