The seaside town of Cagliari is situated on the southeastern shore of the island of Sardina, which lies just off the south-central coast of western Italy. Cagliari is an ancient city with a rich and storied past dating back to the 7th century BCE, owing much of its popularity to its excellent position between the sea and a fertile plain that is surrounded by swamps, making it difficult for enemies to attack. Today, the area has become a popular destination for boating and yachting enthusiasts from around the world, thanks in part to its scenic natural beauty and fantastic Mediterranean climate.

While visiting Cagliari, be sure to venture inland long enough to check out the old part of the city, which lies on a hill overlooking the Gulf of Cagliari and dates back to the 13th century. Also of note, the region is home to a wide variety of water sports that are sure to delight even the most adventuresome seafaring traveler.
