The thriving, coastal town of Follonica lies on the Tyrrhenian Sea in the Tuscany region of Italy on the Gulf of Follonica, just over 30 kilometers east of Piombino and 20 kilometers northwest of Castiglione della Pescaia. The area has been settled since Roman times, but the town was officially founded in the mid-19th century and today hosts a vibrant tourism industry during the summer months, especially among native Italians.

Boating and yachting enthusiasts will enjoy the excellent amenities at the nearby Marina di Scarlino, which features luxury housing, maintenance assistance, laundry service, an exclusive yacht club and spa, along with a number of other services. In addition, the city of Follonica and its surrounding beaches have repeatedly been awarded the coveted Bandiera Blu, or ‘blue flag,’ for their cleanliness, while the warm, sunny Mediterranean climate encourages outdoor exploration. Also consider venturing inland long enough to tour Castle Valley, which boasts stunning ruins that date back to the 9th century.
