Situated almost in the middle of the Aegean Sea between Greece and Turkey is the Cyclades Island chain and the principal island of Syros. Major population centers are Ermoupoli, Ano Syros and Poseidonia, with Ermoupoli being the capital of both the island and the Cyclades.

Of old, Syros was known as a major gathering point in the many commercial routes that crisscross the Aegean. It was a focal point for international commerce linking Western Europe to the East. Although the island has a long history dating back to ancient Roman times, since the 1980s the economy of the island has seen dramatic improvements. Along with a general rise in the Greek standard of living, the island’s focus on tourism and the re-opening of the Neorion shipyards has been a great boon to the overall economy.

Come and enjoy a visit to Syros, and use it as a base to explore the many islands of the Cyclades.
