The stunningly beautiful island of Santorini is situated in the southern Aegean Sea, around 200 kilometers from the Greek mainland and around 286 kilometers southeast of Athens. Santorini is the largest island of the surrounding archipelago, which bears its name and boasts a large central lagoon that is surrounded by steep cliffs on three sides. Inhabited since ancient times, today the island is a popular destination for boating and yachting enthusiasts from around the world, thanks in part to its pristine natural beauty and excellent climate.

Santorini is also home to a thriving wine industry, thanks to its indigenous Assyrtiko grapes, so be sure to sample this the local vintage when visiting. Also of note, be sure to venture inland long enough to check out the architecture in the island’s main city of Fira, which boasts fantastic views of the sea and features a nice port with excellent modern amenities.
