The port town of Ajaccio is located on the west coast of the island of Corsica in the Corse-du-Sud department of France, just over 210 nautical miles – or 390 kilometers – southeast of Marseille. It lies on the sheltered northern shore of the Gulf of Ajaccio, just below the ancient original citadel. Settlement here can be traced all the way back to the 6th century, making this a popular tourist destination today.

The port of Ajaccio is the busiest in all of western Corsica and it hosts quite a bit of travel between this island city and the mainland of southern France. Seafaring travelers will delight in the wide variety of amenities here, while the many luxury vessels and tropical foliage along the shore help to set the tone for the entire city. While here, consider going inland just long enough to view the home where Napoleon Bonaparte was born, as well as the magnificent Ajaccio Cathedral.
