Isla de la Juventud is an island that is located in the West Indies in the Caribbean Sea and it is also the second largest of the islands that belong to Cuba, which is situated around 100 kilometers to the north. In fact, it lies almost due south of Havana across the Gulf of Batabano and is part of the Canarreos Archipelago. Translated, the name means ‘Isle of Youth,’ but ancient cave drawings that were discovered here near the Punta del Este beach suggest a long history of human inhabitation.

Today, Isla de la Juventud and its many picturesque towns, villages and cities, including Nueva Gerona, which is also the capital and the island’s largest populated area, has become a popular tourist destination for boating and yachting enthusiasts, thanks to its excellent climate, gorgeous beaches and the Rio Casas, which is a waterway leading to the sea.
