The Republic of Cuba is a country consisting of the island of Cuba (the largest of the Greater Antilles)and the Isla Juventud (isle of youth). A couple of hundred kilometers east lies the port Cienfuegos. The isla juventud was actually a home base for over 300 years for every pirate, scoundrel and buccaneer scouring the Caribbean Ocean.

First discovered by Christopher Columbus on his second voyage to Cuba, the island was not colonized by Spain until the early 1800s, when it was called the Isle of Pines. In 1975 it got its current name due to the huge number of young people that lived there during the revolution. The island is best known for its oranges and grapefruits as well as its high quality marble mines. The Colony International Diving Center and some astonishing caves cater to the adventurous while Bibijagua Beach’s striking black sand is more suited to the sun worshipper.

Cuba is a magnificent island with a rich heritage and complex Franco-Cuban culture. Each visit will leave you wanting more.
